I am a sales associate in a bicycle shop.
I've worked there over a year now- you'd think I'd know bikes.
I don't. I am, in fact, the least useful or knowledgeable employee working there.
In an attempt to secure my job at that bicycle shop, I'm going to become a better salesperson. How will I do this?
Learn more about bikes.
I plan to do this in the cheapest way possible. Since I can't take up mountain or road biking due to lack of any kind of spending money, and I certainly am not coordinated enough to try anything BMX, I am starting a blog about bikes.
Everything from the basics of fit to wheel size to differences in those silly Shimano derailleurs, to the intricacies of frame geometry and saddle shape, to what the hell "SRAM" stands for- I will write about it. Every topic, every controversy, every detail... anything that I notice in the bike shop and think "wtf is this?", I will write about.
But... why? If it's just a part time job paying for my lunches and totally legal nights out- why go through the trouble to learn all the details?
Curiosity, confidence, a secret obsession with knowing everything in the universe... pick a reason. I just know that I want to know. (and I want to keep my job...) I have to be surrounded by it when I go to work- and thousands of people put time, effort, and passion into this strange thing that is Cycling- why not try to find out everything I can?
So -here goes!
